The first term of the 2015/16 school calendar was a great success for The Ada Lovelace Initiative. With the help of technology role models nationwide, The Ada Lovelace Initiative reached over 2000 pupils in the first round of school visits! This term, the role models of the Ada Lovelace Initiative have been busy promoting technology careers across the country for our second round of school visits which will take place up until the summer holidays.

Secondary school pupils nationwide are returning from their February midterm break this week, which means that the role models of The Ada Lovelace Initiative are back in action! This week’s visits had a special theme as both visits took place at the role models’ former schools.

First up this week was Sinead Mc Cluskey, Director of Commercial Innovation at PEI Surgical. Sinéad Mc Cluskey visited the Transition Year pupils of St.Dominic’s College in Cabra to tell them about her career path, starting from when she was a pupil at their school.

Sinéad’s visit to St.Dominic’s College was followed by a visit to Glenageary by Louise Bernstein, Senior Product Manager at The TAS Group. Louise Bernstein attended Rathdown School herself & returned to speak to the pupils of Transition Year there this week.

Louise shared her experiences as a Senior Product Manager to encourage the pupils to consider technology careers and the pupils were curious to find out more about Louise including the following questions:

  • Why didn’t you do any technology subjects for your leaving cert? (To which Louise replied, there weren’t any available at the time – however there is a Design and Communication course offered at the school currently)
  • Have you made apps that we’d know?
  • What is your favourite part of the product development process?
