The first term of the 2015/16 school calendar was a great success for The Ada Lovelace Initiative. With the help of technology role models nationwide, the initiative reached over 2000 pupils in our first round of school visits! With the schools returning from their Christmas break this month, we are heading into our 2nd round of visits this term and we would like to update our community now before we kick off the school visits again next week!
There are schools in 12 counties registered for a role model visit from The Ada Lovelace Initiative. Last term we reached schools in 9 counties and we intend to reach even more this term with the help of our role models.
We had great feedback from the first schools and role models who took part in this initiative, with some of our first role models giving us a great insight into their technology roles and their experience of volunteering for our new series; ‘Meet The Role Models’.
‘Meet The Role Models’ is an interview series which highlights the stories of the female professionals helping us to reach pupils nationwide. The role models that have been featured in this series so far have told our readers about their career background & they also shared their tips and experiences from taking part in The Ada Lovelace Initiative. Thanks again to all our role models for sharing your candid opinions throughout the series.
As we resume the school visits for this school term, we would like to make a few specific announcements to our community in relation to school visits this term:
– As we are scaling the A.L.I. visits nationally, the success of the initiative depends on the participation of volunteers in those areas locally, so if you would like to register your interest as a role model in any county, we are very happy to facilitate the process of registering a school for you in your area. Please click here to register your interest or to speak to us directly about A.L.I school visits.
– As a note for schools in Dublin – there is growing interest from technology professionals to take part in Dublin and we will be able to facilitate visits all schools in Dublin on the waiting list this term so it is likely that you will receive a visit booking shortly after registering from all areas in Dublin, both city and county. If you would like an A.L.I Role Model to visit the Transition Year students in your school, please click here to register your interest.
– If you are a female technology professional who would be willing to return to your old secondary school, please get in touch with us as many schools are very interested in receiving visits from former pupils. Please click here to register your interest in returning to your old school.
