This month saw a very special and exciting Ada Lovelace Initiative visit to Maynooth Post-Primary, Maynooth, Co. Kildare
Intel and Citi teamed up to talk to 100 female students about the gender gap in technology and what it is like to work in this field.
Kirsty Downey, Project Manager, and Neasa Walsh, Analytics Manager, both with Citi in Dublin spoke about their experiences working in technology, their educational background, their role type and how they chose their career path.
Neasa spoke about her love of reading, drawing, and music in school and how she moved from Management Science and Information Systems Studies through a 10-year stint in AIB. This was excellent preparation for her current role in Citi – giving her a blend of data and financial experience.
Kirsty talked about how she is a Project Manager who started off in Citi as a graduate. She studied Business Information Technology in Belfast and said her job is interesting, challenging and never dull!
Comparing 2 different stories in one setting was very interesting as Kirsty and Neasa are at different career stages and offered perspectives on starting out and developing their careers in STEM.
Intel showed the award-winning documentary, “Code: Debugging the Gender Gap”. This film exposes the dearth of American female and minority software engineers and explores the reasons for this gender gap.
